Centre Film Festival Returns- Nov.13-15th

All About Penn State - Centre Film Festival Returns

The Centre Film Festival will present a weekend of entertainment and insight with a curated selection of films. For the safety of all, this year the festival will be conducted virtually.

“We loved our inaugural year here in Centre County and at the Rowland Theatre, and we will miss seeing our community face to face this year,” said Pearl Gluck, artistic director of the Centre Film Festival and an associate professor of film production in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State. “But, until we get back into the theater, and because of being able to conduct the festival virtually, we are able to bring filmmakers from all over the world and our country to people in their homes. We are really looking forward to the online conversations we will be able to have with our community as we watch films and discuss them.”

ALL ABOUT PENN STATE: PSU Students back on campus

Penn State students spent this past weekend moving back to Happy Valley. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, it has been quite a different process than normal.  The Borough of State College, where Penn State University calls home, has a masking ordinance in place that will be enforced.

This year for Penn State students will be a different atmosphere than before. As students return, Penn State and the borough have established rules for wearing face masks, social distancing and have limited gatherings in an effort to prevent spread of the coronavirus. This will limit all sporting events and social events that have been a huge part of the Penn State Community.

Some students that have returned to campus have been receiving backlash for not following these guidelines. This has been addressed and students are...

ALL ABOUT PENN STATE: PSU expanding paid parental leave

Penn State has recently added another great benefit for full-time employees: paid parental leave.

To qualify, staff members must have been employed in a benefits-eligible position for at least a year before their child’s birth or adoption.

This is great news for current and future university employees, who as of July 1 can take four consecutive weeks off to care for and bond with their new family member. The paid time off must be used within 90 days of the birth or adoption.

For the past 16  years the university has offered paid parental leave to faculty members, but the new program covers a much larger portion of university workers.

Employing around 15,000 staff members in and around State College, Penn State is Centre County’s largest employer, and one of a handful to offer paid parental leave.

Just last year,...

ALL ABOUT PENN STATE: Law Schools

Penn State offers two separately accredited law schools: Penn State Law, located on the University Park campus; and Penn State Dickinson Law, located just under two hours from State College and Centre County in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Both programs trace their roots to the founding of The Dickinson Law School in Carlisle. Established in 1834, the original program was opened by Judge John Reed at Dickinson College. In 1890, the program received an independent charter, and in 1917 ended all affiliation with that college.

Penn State Dickinson Law offers a robust curriculum that combines challenging classes and the invaluable experience of working in law in the real world. In fact, Penn State Dickinson’s graduation requirements go beyond the American Bar Association’s requirements, with students needing to earn at least six of 12 required...

ALL ABOUT PENN STATE: Penn State History & Traditions

Penn State University, located in State College and founded in 1855, has seen countless students come and go over the decades. These students have been instrumental in shaping the history and traditions that many Penn State fans hold near and dear today.

From the very beginning, Old Main was a hub for students. Now serving as an administrative office, it’s one of the university’s most enduring landmarks. Originally built in the 1850s and rebuilt around 1930, this grand building has seen decades of Penn State history unfold on its front steps.

It’s a little-known fact that Penn State’s first unofficial mascot helped build the original Old Main. Born in Kentucky in 1855, a mule nicknamed “Old Coaly” helped haul limestone blocks to the construction site.

Old Coaly stayed on to work at the university and surrounding farms, and he became a student favorite. He was so loved, in...
